Podcast is Word of the Year 2005
The word "Podcast" has been selected by New Oxford American Dictionary as Word of the Year for 2005
About 12 months ago, the term Podcast was only a minor active word on the Internet search engines. Now, Podcast become one of the most popular used word when searching online.
Oxford University Press defines podcast as "a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player."
New Oxford American Dictionary editor in chief, Erin McKean said "Podcast was considered for inclusion last year, but we found that not enough people were using it, or were even familiar with the concept. This year it's a completely different story. The word has finally caught up with the rest of the iPod phenomenon."
"Podcast" will be added to the next online update of the New Oxford American Dictionary, due in early 2006.
Words beaten by "Podcast" are bird flu, lifehack, persistent vegetative state, reggaeton, rootkit, squick, sudoku and trans fat.
